Finding Yourself In Crisis

How Focus Changes Future

For some of us around the world, we’re in the midst of it. Others are still early to the party- yet it seems like this is an invitation the entire human population must respond to. As COVID-19 moves throughout the world; our reptilian brains lock into survival mode seemingly within the first 10 seconds of seeing any updates or news articles. This leads to endless anxiety, panic-buying, and an onslaught of behaviors we see when people’s back feel to the wall.

I’m here to assist in alleviating it. There are many intelligent, unshakeable leaders in our world that can assist the rest of the community to find our center again. In my eyes, shakeups are always good opportunities. In the financial world, most millionaires come from recessions because that’s when all the money is to be made. I’m here to tell you the same is for every other area of our lives and we can use this as an opportunity to create some serious forward progress. I’m looking at quarantine and otherwise unpleasant ideas as a gift. It’s a little bit more free time than previously that we can utilize how we see fit.

First, let’s step out of survival mode. For many, it’s the deep breath that comes after being aware of how you’ve been responding to current events that pulls you out. The relaxation from the breath brings you back into your body and grounds you with a new purpose. Realize that the feelings that come during a crisis are from your body trying to protect you. It’s great for short-term, emergency prepping but to use it as a ground zero for mental health is a bad move.

The easiest way to continue climbing out of survival and into purpose is to reassess where you’re at and the direction you’re heading. The not so easy task can be facing the parts of you that have been in hiding for one reason or another- but if this virus is going to be daily-life altering; let’s just make plans to fully evolve from the experience. Come to terms with who you are, who you want to be, and acknowledge the adversity that comes in between the two.

When did you last feel completely aligned and feel like you were pursuing what made you happy? When we stop to consider all the actions we take on a day to day basis that isn’t in favor of the life we see as ideal and within our means of accomplishing- we can start to see how much time we’ve wasted in the past working towards meaningless pursuits. Let’s begin to turn our attention to a more fulfilling experience.

Seven Core Areas of Life

  1. Spiritual
  2. Health
  3. Key Relationships
  4. Personal
  5. Finance
  6. Business
  7. Job

Where was the last time you specifically wrote out what you wanted your result to be when it came to accomplishing your outcomes? When was the last time you picked up these different core areas of your life and look at it through a creative world-view with a keen sense to get started building it the way you actually see fit?

We now have that time.

We’ve always had that time- but now there’s enough leverage to actually begin to make changes. The reality has always been that there’s no such thing as a guaranteed long life. We all have to pass through the beginning and end of life and that’s the way it is. What if we began spending it with a new focus on becoming the best version of ourselves in each of these areas of life? If not for ourselves, for others.

This crisis can prove to be the greatest thing that has happened to many of us. It is the opportunity to renew a connection with a higher calling, the chance at eating smarter and healthier, a time to rekindle old relationships, time to take that vacation from work to pursue a hobby or business, and of course the opportunity to reset your finances and put yourself back on track. When we are examining what we want for these different categories in our life let’s remember to look with an open mind and be prepared to shed many layers. Pending on how old you are and where your mindset is at- you could be needing to shed many skins before you get down to the things you actually desire. Often times we’ll find ourselves so far down the wrong path that it seems hopeless. Yet, the awareness to change is enough to illuminate the entire path out and into where you need to be. Let’s commit to getting there.

  1. For my (Core Area,) what do I want?

2. What’s the one thing I could do for my (Core Area Want,) such that by doing it, everything else became easier or unnecessary?

Arm yourself with these two questions. This could get you infinitely closer than where you started simply by formulating some new questions that provide a focus for your life.

The point is here that many times during a crisis, humans will run around with their head in their ass because they’re so scared. To consider what you want means you’re thinking logically and have the power to create. You can create a new focus that provides a new perspective. This, in turn, will create new reasons for you to keep going.

How long might we have to go until we’re out?

Who knows. It could be the end of the road here. The point is that by waking yourself up to your own humanity and consciousness- you can begin to live life in a way where it’s meaningful. Progress feels good and you have the means to keep living life- no matter how hard the struggle. Humans are born to adapt and survive and although staying alive and healthy is a priority- it’s better to know what you want out of your life regardless of the day-to-day circumstances and keep your eyes on a much longer-term focus.

After every winter- there is a spring.
